Designer Biography
Amir Luqman Othman, was born in Kelantan Darul Naim, Malaysia. Raised in Shah Alam, Selangor, MY and Kota Bharu, Kelantan, MY, Amir began designing at young age and attended the International Fashion Training Centre (IFTC) in Kuala Lumpur, MY for Diploma in Fashion Design. As Amir experienced working closely with Anne Avantie from Indonesia, Amir’s eponymous Batik line often draws raves for being unabashedly ladylike, timeless and practical. The collections reflect Amir’s pragmatic approach to dressing women.
Amir Luqman started building his name in Year 2004 by winning second runner up in Soft Furnishing Category at Piala Seri Endon 2004, being a finalist Star KL Fashion Week Designer Award 2005 and finalist Piala Seri Endon 2005. At the age of 21 Amir was the youngest designer to be featured in the book “Batik Inspiration” an internationally acclaimed coffee table book which iscurrently available all over the world. Amir was also awaded as Isetan Young Designer Promo 2006. In Year 2008, Amir won Best Avant Garde Design and Best Cocktail Wear at Passion Ball Award 2008 and also Ten Rising Star M-IFW 2008. The Miss Universe 2011 National Costume for Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 was ranked second runner-up for Global Beauties Most Beautiful Award. Recently, Amir was awarded two-time for Designer of the Year BDA Awards 2011 and 2012.
Amir Luqman is also very active in the Malaysian Film and Music Industry. Amir was a Costume Stylist for main cast of Emil Emilda TV Series, 2007; Sumo lahFilm, 2007; main cast of Sindarela TV Series, 2008; Los dan Faun Film, 2008; Opening Act dancers during Anugerah Skrin 2008; Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza in You.C1000 TV Commercial Ad, 2008 and also a coordinator for P. Ramlee the Musical Season 1, 2007; and P. Ramlee the Musical Season 2, 2008. Amir was also a costume designer for Anugerah Industri Muzik ke-15 (AIM15)’s Best Music Video ; Sangkar by Atilia, 2007; Siti Nurhaliza during SATU Konsert Eksklusif Dato' Siti Nurhaliza 2009; Siti Nurhaliza in Siti Nurhaliza’s Pada Cintanya Music Video, 2009; Siti Nurhaliza in Siti Nurhaliza & Kris Dayanti’s Amarah Music Video, 2009; Alyah in Alyah’s Kisah Hati Music Video, 2011; female models in Ashtaka’s Let’s Get It Together Music Video, 2011; Siti Nurhaliza in SimplySiti’s Vogue and Lovely Edition TV Commercial Ad, 2011; and Hoore!
